Dawn Chorus
Overview:
Length: 1/2 day
Max ratio: 1:12
Minimum booking: 4
The spring dawn chorus in British woodlands is one of the best wildlife spectacles you can experience and really worth getting out of bed for. We are up, quite literally, at the crack of dawn to listen to the acoustic performance of our native and migratory songbirds as they start the day. From faint murmurs in the woodland twilight, we'll hear an ever-increasing chorus of birdsong across sunrise and explore the mechanisms behind how and why birds produce such elaborate melodies.
You'll come away with the knowledge of how to identify 4 or 5 common birds by their calls and songs, as well as being exposed to 20+ songster candidates. You will also gain an understand of basic bird ecology and conservation.
Please bring a torch of some form and come suitably dressed for a very early start when it could be rather chilly. You are welcome to bring binoculars, if you have them, but we will be using our ears more than our eyes.
Who is this for?
This is an opportunity to get to grips with bird song identification for our common lowland/woodland birds as much as it is an opportunity to be moved by the wonderful acoustic performance. We will be out for around 2-3 hours to return before most people have even had their morning coffee or breakfast. This workshop is eligible for MTA CPD points.
